National Close the Gap Day is an annual event that takes place on 16th March. It raises awareness and seeks to close the gap with respect to life expectancy, child mortality, educational and employment outcomes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and non-Indigenous Australians.
In recognition of this day, I joined a yarning session hosted by the Thurru Indigenous Health Unit at the University of Newcastle. Here we reflected on our shared history and celebrated the strength of those who case before us.
